Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar until combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually add to dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. For frosting, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add cocoa powder and powdered sugar alternately with heavy cream; mix until smooth.
  7. Assemble the cake by spreading frosting between layers and covering the entire cake with more frosting.
