  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for crust)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, mix flour and 2 tbsp sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  2. Add ice-cold water until dough forms; press into a tart pan and prick with a fork.
  3. Line with parchment paper, fill with weights, and bake for 15 minutes. Remove weights and bake for another 5 minutes.
  4. In another bowl, whisk egg, milk, cream, remaining sugar, nutmeg, and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Pour mixture into the crust and bake for 30-35 minutes until set but slightly jiggly.
  6. Cool before slicing; serve topped with whipped cream or additional nutmeg.
