Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup ground beef or chicken
  • 2 tbsp Japanese curry powder
  • 1/2 onion, finely diced
  • 1 small carrot, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add warm water while stirring until a soft dough forms. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth.
  2. Let It Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Cook the Filling: Sauté onion until translucent. Add ground meat and cook until browned. Stir in carrot and curry powder; add water and simmer until thickened.
  4. Shape the Buns: Punch down the dough and divide into eight equal portions. Flatten each piece, place 1 tablespoon of filling in the center, and seal edges.
  5. Second Rise: Place buns seam-side down on parchment-lined baking sheets. Cover with cloth and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake buns for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
