Ingredients

For the Casserole

  • 1 loaf Brioche Bread Substitution: cinnamon swirl bread can add a delightful twist.
  • 6 Large Eggs For a vegan version, substitute with ground flaxseed.
  • 2 cups Milk Choose whole or any non-dairy alternative. Almond or oat milk can also be delightful options.
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese Substitution: Use light cream cheese or a vegan alternative for a lighter option.
  • 1 tbsp Cinnamon Adjust the amount based on your personal preference for spice.
  • 1/2 cup Maple Syrup Tip: Honey or agave syrup could be alternatives if desired.
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract Substitution: A whole vanilla bean can offer an even richer flavor.

For the Toppings (Optional)

  • 1 cup Fresh Fruits Strawberries, bananas, and peaches pair beautifully!
  • 1/2 cup Nuts Add crunch and an extra layer of flavor; pecans or walnuts work wonderfully.
  • 1 cup Whipped Cream Consider using a dairy-free whipped topping for a vegan option.

Instructions

Making the Casserole

  • Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish using butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  • Layer the sliced brioche in the baking dish, overlapping the slices slightly.
  • Whisk together large eggs, milk, cinnamon, maple syrup, and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl until well combined and smooth.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the brioche layers, making sure every piece is generously coated.
  • Dot the surface with chunks of cream cheese, evenly distributing them.
  • Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  • Serve hot, allowing the casserole to cool for 5 minutes before slicing into squares.

Notes

Let the casserole cool slightly before slicing; this helps maintain its structure.
